12 year old girl escapes abduction attempt:

Midday, Saturday 12th January 2002
Police are appealing for witnesses following a botched abduction attempt on a twelve year old girl at Midday on Saturday.

The incident took place on green space adjacent to a pond off Turton Road, Astley Bridge in Bolton, when a man approached the girl from behind and grabbed her, gagging her with his right hand whilst trying to drag her away. But she struggled and escaped the scene.

The man is described as white, in his mid-twenties and about 5'9" tall with medium length, dark hair. He was wearing a dark blue top made of shiny material with a green stripe around the chest, well-worn black lace-up boots and a black leather watch on his right wrist. He also smelt of cigarettes.
