Further Car Jacking Over Weekend:

Monday 04 February, 2002

As a further car jacking incident occurred over the weekend the subject, reported on SBN last Thursday, garnered national attention.

Shortly after 2:30 on the morning of Sunday 3rd February a 35 year old man was attacked as he sat idling in his Silver Citroen Xsara on Victoria Avenue East, in Blackley.

Four men, wearing dark clothing and black hoods forced their way into the car, smashing windows and dragging the driver out. They then escaped with the stolen Citroen in the direction of Rochdale Road.

Meanwhile, in the Bradford area there have been many similar incidents in recent weeks and car jacking in the North West is now hitting the national headlines. The Home Secretary, David Blunkett, today pledged tougher sentences for such offences.

Supt. Simon Garvey of Collyhurst Police said "When driving your vehicle please ensure that it is locked and that all items of value are kept out of view. If you do feel threatened at all please report the incident to the police as soon as you feel safe to do so."

The car registration of the most recent theft is ML51 WRK. If you have any information on this or any of the recent car jacking incidents, please contact Collyhurst CID on 0161 856 3940
