Early Action Group Explosion:

Thursday 10th January 2002
We have since approached the Early Action Group, but no one was available for comment. Greater Manchester Police inform us explosions in the tyres are suspected as the source of the fire, although what caused these initial explosions is still unknown.

21:30 Tuesday 8th January 2002
At 20:45 this evening, a heavy good vehicle was ignited on the property of the Early Action Group (Oldfield Road) behind the Wellington pub on Regent Road, Salford, requiring the attendance of emergency fire and police services. At this stage, no one is believed to have been hurt.

This isn't the first time that a property in the block has suffered a fire - Johnstons Paint Group has been the victim of arson in the past and more recently there was a bomb scare at the Wellington (from where Special Branch removed a car-bomb - not thought to be linked with terrorism), leading to the evacuation of the surrounding properties and the main route into the City Centre being closed for over 12 hours.

Following tonight's fire, nearby businesses were evacuated leaving the late night workforce uncertain as to when it will be safe to resume business.
